One in
five children in
Head Start is a positive introduction to
school experiences and a bridge linking children and families to community
resources. Our goal is to prepare children for a successful educational
experience, in partnership with their family.
Head Start
Our Head Start program offers an environment where children learn through exploration and interaction with other children, adults and materials. Experiences are provided to encourage growth in all developmental areas. We invite parent(s)/guardian(s) to participate and be involved with setting developmental goals for their child/children.Teachers, and Key Workers will do home visits to address learning needs . The desired result for those children participating in the program is to increase their level of school readiness and positive feelings towards learning.
Nutritional snacks are provided.
Parent/guardian involvement is welcome and encouraged.
Head Start is offered mornings and afternoons Tuesday through Friday.
Mornings: 9:20 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.
Afternoons: 1:20 p.m. to 4:20 p.m.
Age Requirement: 3.5 - 5 years years of age and toilet trained.
Program Length: September through June
Outreach Services
Home Visits:
Both programs have the support of Outreach Workers. Their role is to
assist families accessing the support and services they need and to
facilitate parent groups. Outreach services may include referrals to
services provided by external professional service providers in the
area of Speech/Language, Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy.
Outreach Workers offer support in crisis situations and advocate with
families in matters of importance. This support service is offered both
in the home and on site.
Parent Support Groups:
Facilitated by Outreach Workers
and guided by parent interest and assistance. Provides opportunities to
be informed of community resources and access; and strengthening of
parenting strategies and skills. The groups also provide opportunities
to socialize with fellow community members.
Partners
Regional
Capital Health Authority provides a Primary Health Care Team who comes on site
to screen children for vision, dental, hearing, height, weight and monitor
immunizations. They also participate in
parent groups to discuss health related issues
Who is eligible to attend?
An experienced member of our Outreach team will conduct a home visit to review eligibility based on the following criteria:
- Families who live within the Clareview Head Start boundaries
- Families who fall within low income guidelines - there is no cost
- Children ages one to five and their parents/guardians
Bus service is available for children within the Clareview boundaries. Further information regarding boundaries can be obtained by calling 475-1020.
Program Goals
Head Start- Children have met appropriate developmental milestones specific to the individual.
- Children will be ready to transition into kindergarten.
- Parents will have improved parenting skills.
- Parents will be better equipped to face life's challenges.
